Google Sites Sunsetting

Next Gen Web Project

UNCG’s strategic technology transition includes the discontinuation of support for Google Sites within the university’s Google environment.

What is it?

As the University shifts from Google to Microsoft, the Google Sites service is being discontinued. This change affects all students, faculty, and staff who have created and maintained Google Sites in UNCG’s Google environment.

Why are we doing it?

The University is transitioning from Google to a new partnership with Microsoft, ending a significant portion of its Google licensing agreement, which includes Google Sites.

How will I be impacted?

If you own or manage a Google Site that is in the UNCG environment, you will receive communications and instructions for how to migrate your data to a different service offering.

When will this be implemented?

All Google Sites owners must have their data moved by no later than September 16, 2024.

What do I need to do?

Watch for notices and instructions to come from ITS. Reach out to ITS if you need assistance.
