CHiP – Streamlining Hardware Purchasing @ UNCG

Starting Fall 2022, the new Campus-wide Hardware Procurement (CHiP) program will streamline and expedite PC and Mac purchases for faculty and staff.

What is it?

The new Campus-wide Hardware Procurement (CHiP) program will streamline and expedite PC and Mac purchases for faculty and staff starting in Fall 2022

Why are we doing it?

IT Controls Audit findings require greater governance over computer management at UNCG. By streamlining purchasing, delivery, device set-up, and asset tracking process, ITS will provide better service and support for University users at lower costs.

How will I be impacted?

Selecting and purchasing computers will be much easier! Departments will also get a higher level of support from ITS including loaner machines for standard model laptops, on-premise inventory of some common accessories for purchase, and a well-curated list of tested and certified accessories.

Departments will only be able to purchase computer hardware from the CHiP program selections. There won’t be as many options for computers as you now have. But, exceptions can be made with approval.

When will this be implemented?

This program begins Fall 2022.

What do I need to do?

Explore the new equipment options with the person in your department who is responsible for purchasing hardware. Visit go.uncg.edu/chip for more information.
For a list of current standard devices, see CHiP: Tiers and Standard Setups.
