Centralizing Distributed Technology Staff Oversight

A central authority and structure over distributed IT functions and IT staff that will address the management of technology assets, critical vulnerabilities remediation, software patching, and sensitive data by July 2023.

What is it?

The IT Controls Audit specifically requires UNCG to “establish central authority and structure that would enable development and implementation of a comprehensive IT governance” program for distributed IT for technology asset management, critical vulnerabilities remediation, software patching, as well as the protection, monitoring, remediation and disposal of sensitive data. To comply with this requirement, UNCG will develop a comprehensive IT personnel management procedure to set common expectations and management requirements of employees with position duty or responsibility to operate, manage, or support university technology services. The procedure will ensure greater institutional coherence with new and established technology policies, standards, and guidelines.

Why are we doing it?

To comply with UNC System and IT Controls Audit requirements.

How will I be impacted?

If your position is identified as part of this initiative, ITS is going to work with your area supervisor to establish a standard position description and workplan, implement assessment, and coordinate training. Please note that you will continue to report in your current home area and will continue to primarily report to your current area supervisor.

When will it be completed?

This initiative is expected to be implemented by Summer 2023.

What do I need to do?

Work with ITS and your supervisor to understand how your work and/or reporting will be impacted and begin training on new technology standards when it becomes available. Watch your email closely and follow ITS News for the latest information.
